the soles of my shoes bent and welcomed the beach gravel
the cold was so deep that it slithered through the fabric of my shirt
and coiled around my head like a serpentine constrictor
not only sight but sound and taste and smell were lost in the damp belly of the fog
and in front me i saw the skeleton of a fish and a dead seagull lying side by side
sabotouge
claimed the gull
it was a feast no true scavenger could avoid
bury me among my people
said the fish
i do not wish to rise among pale faces
so i kicked it back into the sea
and listened to voices of the gull and the bird, the ocean and the fog
and they said
ammmm
